"We are on the cusp of something great," Lesley Bruner, Executive Director of the Sauk Prairie Area Chamber of Commerce, told Chamber members in attendance at Monday's 2009 Annual Dinner and Awards Banquet held at the Dorf Haus in Roxbury.

The dining room was filled to near capacity as business people from all walks met to hear how to improve the business climate in Sauk Prairie and to honor those business that are succeeding in their ventures.

The Executive Session, Sauk Prairie High School's Show Choir group, opened the evening with selections from Bugsy Malone.

As the attendees finished dessert, James Schneider, of Blue Chip Training & Marketing, filled everyone in on the outcome of the business summit held in October 2008. Schneider said the thing that draws business people to Sauk Prairie is community pride. In the summit the two best things about Sauk Prairie were identified as the natural amenities and a great school system. The two main obstacles to business were identified as resistance to change and consolidation - working together.

Schneider had a small group of people play a game of musical chairs to stress how competition works and then changed the rules of that same game to show how easily people can learn to work together.

Another business summit is being planned for sometime in the next 4-6 weeks to address what the Chamber can do to help achieve success and how to do it.

A brief business meeting followed with election of vice presidents, new board members and treasurer for the Chamber.

After adjourning the business meeting, awards were presented. Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital & Clinics was awarded the Not-For Profit Business of the Year. This is the second time the hospital has received this award. Ken Carlson accepted the award for SPMH&C.

Dr. Joe and Jodi Kelley flew back to Sauk Prairie from a attending the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando, Fla. to receive the award for Small Business of the Year. The Kelleys own Sauk Prairie Small Animal Hospital and Shamrock Pet Resort. The couple flew back to Orlando on Tuesday.

Village Family Dental received the award for Large Business of the Year. Randy Ballweg accepted the award. Village Family Dental was founded in 1966 and has offices in Prairie du Sac, Black Earth and Spring Green.

Bruner described this year's recipient of the Business Person of the Year Award as a Level 5 Leader. The recipient was Mark Weaver of Weaver Auto Parts.

Following the awards presentations the annual meeting was adjourned for the evening.
